Suzy McKee Charnas’ groundbreaking novel, The Vampire Tapestry, was an original, popular, and critically-acclaimed exploration of the vampire mythos. Charnas received a Nebula Award for her novella, “Unicorn Tapestry,” which is reprinted in Stagestruck Vampires. She also received the Tiptree Award for The Conqueror’s Child, the final installment in the controversial series, the Holdfast Chronicles. She received the Hugo Award for "Boobs," also reprinted in Stagestruck Vampires. Charnas has also written two vampire novels, four Young Adult novels, a mainstream novel about art, ghosts, and land fraud set in New Mexico, two plays, and the complete revision of the libretto to a musical, Nosferatu.
Charnas says: "I come from a long line of smart, tough, charming women who married clever but useless husbands, kicked the men out in exasperation, and raised the kids on their own. A born and bred New Yorker, child of two commercial artists, I was trained to be an artist myself. Nevertheless (or consequently), for the past thirty-plus years I've been living with my lawyer-husband in New Mexico, writing science fiction, fantasy, horror, weird non-fiction, and anything else that takes my fancy."

Stagestruck Vampires and Other Phantasms
by Suzy McKee Charnas
Introduction Paul Di Filippo
Cover illustration and design by John Picacio
Hugo, Nebula and Tiptree Award-winning author Suzy McKee Charnas offers up her lush stories in the retrospective collection Stagestruck Vampires and Other Phantasms.
In Stagestruck Vampires, the supernatural and the real intertwine seamlessly. A villainous maestro is redeemed by his lovely, apt pupil, in "Beauty and the Opera or The Phantom Beast." Inside the "Unicorn Tapestry," a psychotherapist stalks a vampire. A dazzling performance of Tosca is marred by a shocking murder during "A Musical Interlude."
This collection features new work by Charnas--the mystical novelette, "Peregrines," and two original essays. Also included is a collaborative story on vampire themes, "Advocates," written with Chelsea Quinn Yarbro, author of the Saint-Germain Chronicles.
There's no greater magician than Suzy McKee Charnas."
